The Taiwanese IPC Industry, 3Q 2018

The report finds that the Taiwanese IPC industry's shipment value topped over NTD 50 billion (USD 1.64 billion; USD1 = NTD30.4) for the first time in the second quarter of 2018 to NTD 51.0 billion (USD 1.68 billion), up 26.6% year-on-year and 12.9% sequentially. Based on our findings, the industry's outstanding growth is attributed to the positive effect of mergers and acquisitions that took place in the past two years. In the second half of 2018, the industry's shipment value is estimated to break NTD 100 billion (USD 3.29 billion) to about NTD 114.0 billion (USD 3.75 billion), up 12.7% compared to the first half. The industry's growth in the first half of 2018 had been affected by the US-China trade war and tariffs on products exported from China. To this end, US customers have been conservative about shipment replenishment while the shortage of components has also had some impact on their shipments in the second half of 2018.
