From late 4G into the 5G era, carrier aggregation, dual connectivity, multiple receive chains, and wider bandwidths intensified the efficiency–linearity–thermal trade-offs, accelerating system-level optimization and higher integration, including tighter coordination between PAs and power control techniques (e.g., envelope tracking), more complex switch matrices, tuning networks, and filter combinations, and the emergence of platform-style solutions.
