However, due to the health and environmental risks posed by lead, its use is restricted in many regions and applications. Lead-free solder foil is made of alternative metals, usually a combination of tin, silver, copper or other alloys, and is designed to replace traditional lead-based solder. It complies with environmental regulations such as the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) directive. Lead-free solder foil is widely used in consumer electronics, automotive, and medical devices, where regulatory compliance and environmental safety are important. However, it generally requires a higher melting temperature than lead-containing solder and can be more challenging to handle.
