Metallurgical grade fluorspar, also known as metallurgical fluorspar, is a kind of fluorspar used in such industries like steel, glass, ceramic, cement, etc.
Globally, the production of fluorspar is mainly concentrated in China, Mongolia, Mexico, Europe and South Africa. Orbia is the largest manufacturer of fluospar while China is the largest consumer.
Metallurgical grade fluorite uses include:
Steel production - as a flux to lower the melting point and increase chemical reactivity, helping to absorb and remove sulfur, phosphorus, carbon and other impurities in slag. It is widely used in steel manufacturing, ferroalloy production and non-ferrous metal smelting.
Cement - as a flux to speed up the calcination process and enable kilns to operate at lower temperatures, easy calcination, shorten sintering time and save energy.
Ceramics - fluorite is used to make glazes and surface treatments to produce hard glossy surfaces, opalescent surfaces and other appearances that make consumer glass products more attractive or more durable.
Glass - fluorite is used in glass production emulsified glass, opaque glass and colored glass materials, which can lower the melting point of glass, improve melting, and speed up melting, thereby reducing fuel consumption.
