Upstream, flywheel energy storage devices draw on suppliers of high-strength rotor materials (alloy steels or carbon-fiber composites and resins), precision machining or filament-winding and curing services, hubs/shafts and high-speed fasteners, bearing systems (mechanical or magnetic) plus sensors and control electronics, vacuum vessels and seals, motor-generator machines, power electronics (rectifiers/inverters, DC-link capacitors, protection devices), thermal management hardware, and high-integrity containment and certification/testing services. Downstream, flywheel OEMs and system integrators package single units or modular banks with controls and monitoring software and deploy them for grid ancillary services (frequency regulation and fast reserve), power quality and UPS ride-through in data centers and industrial facilities, rail and industrial regenerative-braking capture, microgrids and renewable smoothing, and other critical infrastructure, then provide commissioning, operations support, preventative maintenance, and end-of-life refurbishment or recycling of metals, composites, magnets, and electronics.
