Liquid cooling uses liquid convection heat transfer to transfer the heat generated by computer operation. Since the specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity of liquid are higher than those of air, it is more suitable for high-power data centers, energy storage systems, etc. Compared with air cooling, the cooling capacity of liquid cooling technology has been greatly improved. For example, 3M compared the performance of immersion liquid cooling and air cooling for data center systems. The results showed that the heat flux density and heat transfer coefficient under liquid cooling conditions were significantly higher than those of air cooling, with better heat dissipation and more energy-saving. The PUE can be reduced to 1.02, and the power density and computing power per unit area of a single rack in the data center can be greatly improved. Immersion cooling is a method of cooling data center IT hardware by directly immersing the hardware in non-conductive liquid. Immersion cooling is in direct contact with electronic devices, and the insulating liquid medium can ensure the insulation of electrical appliances, which can save more than 30% of energy compared to air cooling.
