Ship Borne LNG Storage Tank Market

LNG storage tank is a special structure independent of the hull, and its form has a great impact on the design of LNG transportation. There are two types of tanks for LNG carriers in the world: self-supporting tank and membrane tank. The self-supporting type includes Type A and Type B, of which Type A is prismatic or called IHISPB, and is provided with a complete secondary leak proof partition to protect all goods from leakage. The patent belongs to Ishikawa Shimizu Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. of Japan; Type B is spherical and is equipped with some secondary leak proof compartments to prevent a small amount of goods from leaking. The patent belongs to KVANERNERMOS. The membrane type can be divided into two types: Technigaz and Gaz Transport. The inner wall of the former is corrugated. Its characteristics are: many prefabricated parts can be processed to shorten the shipbuilding time. Due to the thin insulation layer, the corresponding cargo loading capacity is slightly larger, but the insulation materials are expensive, and the insulation is bonded, which cannot be changed after construction. The quality control requirements are strict. The latter is made of flat INVAR steel (36% nickel steel) with a thickness of 0.7mm and a width of 500mm. This number has grown steadily between 2010 and 2021, and in 2020, Qatar Petroleum signed an agreement with South Korea"s "Big Three" shipbuilders to support LNG trade for new LNG supplies, potentially gaining as much as 151 by 2027 The ship cost more than 7 billion Qatari riyals ($19.23 billion). Factors such as ample natural gas reserves, efficiency, and low carbon footprint further increase the use of LNG, thereby creating the demand for onboard LNG storage tanks.
