Biomass Gasification Market Outlook - 2028

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine War Influence, the global market for Biomass Gasification estimated at 24 USD million in the year 2021, is projected to reach a revised size of 37 USD million by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 6.31 % during the forecast period 2022-2028.

Thermo-chemical conversion of biomass into a mixture of combustible gases is known as biomass gasification. This process only uses a portion of the air that would normally be required for full combustion. Additionally, it offers a more versatile method than conventional combustion for obtaining energy from the thermochemical conversion of biomass. Devolatilization, combustion, and reduction are steps in the gasification process. Heat is used during devolatilization to release methane and other hydrocarbons from the biomass, leaving behind a reactive char. The volatiles and char are burnt partially during combustion to produce heat and carbon dioxide. In contrast, during the reduction phase, carbon dioxide absorbs heat and interacts with the residual char to form carbon monoxide.

Biomass Gasification Industry

The USA market for Biomass Gasification is estimated to increase from $ million in 2022 to reach $ million by 2028, at a CAGR of % during the forecast period of 2023 through 2028.

The China market for Biomass Gasification is estimated to increase from $ million in 2022 to reach $ million by 2028, at a CAGR of % during the forecast period of 2023 through 2028.

The Europe market for Biomass Gasification is estimated to increase from $ million in 2022 to reach $ million by 2028, at a CAGR of % during the forecast period of 2023 through 2028.

Biomass Gasification

Biomass gasification is a process which involves a thermo-chemical conversion of biomass into a combustible gas mixture through a partial combustion route with air supply restricted to less than that theoretically needed for full combustion. It also provides a means of deriving more diverse forms of energy from the thermochemical conversion of biomass than conventional combustion. The gasification process includes devolatilization, combustion, and reduction. During devolatilization, methane and other hydrocarbons are produced from the biomass by the action of heat which leaves a reactive char. During combustion, the volatiles and char are partially burned in air/oxygen to generate heat and carbon dioxide. Whereas, in reduction phase, carbon dioxide absorbs heat and reacts with the remaining char to produce carbon monoxide. The main type of gasifiers used to carry out the conversion process are fixed bed gasifiers and fluidized bed gasifiers.

Biomass Gasification Market Report Trends

The demand for decentralized energy generation has increased as a result of the rising rate of rural electrification, particularly in emerging nations. This desire is a key factor propelling the worldwide biomass gasification market toward expansion. In addition, the market is growing due to the broad acceptance of these waste processing systems as an alternative to traditional methods like landfilling and incineration. Additionally, the major market participants and governments of various countries have continually made investments in the creation of cutting-edge technologies, which is aiding in the expansion of the Biomass Gasification market.

For instance, the Gasification Systems Program of the United States Department of Energy (USDOE) is creating novel and adaptable modular designs. This facilitates the production of clean synthesis gas from various domestic coal blends, waste plastics, and municipal solid waste (MSW). Additionally, the global market is being positively impacted by the growing development and commercialization of small- to large-scale biomass gasification systems coupled with power generation equipment.

There has been a shift toward environmentally friendly energy sources as a response to the escalating environmental problems and rising greenhouse gas emissions. It is anticipated that this will have a favorable effect on the expansion of the worldwide biomass gasification market. As a result, the market for biomass has expanded far more quickly than that for other energy sources. Governments also support the market through a variety of laws and regulations, which, together with the abundance of biomass, are some other considerations. As a result, groundwater contamination, landfill spaces, and methane emissions from the decomposition of organic materials inside landfills can all be reduced. However, the high cost of gasification and the rising use of biofuels for energy production are anticipated to restrain the growth of the worldwide biomass gasification market.

Biomass Gasification Market Share

Germany and Sweden take up a significant percentage of the region in Europe, which produces the majority of the world's biogas. The Asia-Pacific region has experienced rapid growth in the worldwide gasification market as a result of the region's abundant resource availability and rising energy consumption.
