LiDAR is an active measuring device that measures the precise distance between an object and a sensor by emitting lasers. It uses a transceiver array consisting of lasers and detectors, combined with beam scanning, to obtain the precise distance and contour information of surrounding objects with the help of laser dot matrix, thus achieving real-time perception of the surrounding environment and obstacle avoidance. At the same time, LiDAR can be combined with pre-collected high-precision maps to achieve centimeter-level positioning accuracy to achieve autonomous navigation. In-vehicle LiDAR is a LiDAR system designed for the automotive industry with high reliability, high safety and high performance requirements to support autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Compared with ordinary LiDAR, automotive-grade LiDAR has higher standards in terms of working environment, anti-interference ability, fault safety and durability, and can cope with various complex driving environments and extreme conditions.
Mechanical laser radar, such as multi-line laser radar, has multiple laser transceiver modules. During the offline matching process of laser radar, they need to be matched or debugged one by one, which has a very long impact on the production cycle of laser radar and the cost will increase accordingly. Semi-solid/solid state does not have similar problems, especially pure solid state, where the chip directly transmits and receives laser radar, and there is no need for so-called matching and debugging. The cost is on a downward trend from mechanical to semi-solid to solid state. In addition, with large-scale mass production, the cost of automotive laser radar will also be on a downward channel.
The large-scale application stage of laser radar needs to significantly reduce costs and increase product life. Laser radar with chip architecture can integrate hundreds of discrete devices into one chip, which reduces the volume, reduces material costs, and improves reliability. Laser radar with chip architecture is the future development direction.
The performance of laser radar, especially resolution and detection range, is continuously improving. High-precision three-dimensional environment modeling, long-distance detection capability and adaptability to complex environments make the role of laser radar in autonomous driving more and more important.
