After incubation, cells are fixed, stained, and analyzed microscopically to quantify micronucleus frequency in interphase or mitotic cells. An increase in micronuclei compared to negative controls indicates potential clastogenic (chromosome-breaking) or aneugenic (chromosome-segregation-disrupting) effects, making this test critical for assessing the genotoxic potential of compounds in regulatory toxicology, drug development, and environmental hazard screening.
