Its core structure is similar to that of PEM electrolyzer, but anion exchange membrane is used to replace proton exchange membrane to achieve effective transfer of OH−. The main structure of AEM hydrogen production system consists of anion exchange membrane and two transition metal catalytic electrodes. Generally, pure water or low-concentration alkaline solution is used as electrolyte, and cheap non-precious metal catalysts are used.
AEM water electrolysis hydrogen production system can use inexpensive non-precious metal catalysts, and the cost of components such as anion exchange membrane, porous transport layer, bipolar plate, etc. is also lower than that of similar components in PEM electrolysis, which greatly reduces the overall cost. AEM technology combines the advantages of ALK and PEM, works in a weakly alkaline environment, and has a current and efficiency comparable to PEM. AEM water electrolysis technology has good dynamic response characteristics and can flexibly adapt to the fluctuations of renewable energy, which is of great significance for the utilization of renewable energy. Pure water or low-concentration alkaline solution is used as the electrolyte to avoid strong corrosion problems. The water electrolysis device has no leakage, small size, easy handling, and meets environmental protection requirements.
