Electrical steels are distinguished by their excellent electro-magnetic properties. There are two major types of fully processed electrical steels: grain-oriented (GO) and non-oriented (NO). Non-oriented electrical steel features homogeneous magnetic properties in all directions. They are widely used as iron core materials in rotating machines ranging from large power generators to tiny precision electric motors. They are also used in the iron core of small power transformers.
Electrical steel is the core material of motors and transformers, and can be said to be the most core material driving modern industry, irreplaceable. Electrical steel can be divided into two categories: oriented and non-oriented. Oriented electrical steel has the highest technical threshold, followed by high-grade non-oriented, and finally low- and medium-grade non-oriented. Grain-oriented electrical steel is used in the transformer industry, and the product has high added value but the total demand is small. Non-oriented electrical steel is used in the motor industry, with a large quantity and a wide range. New energy vehicles use high-grade non-oriented silicon steel. In 2020, the downstream demand structure of non-oriented silicon steel in my country will be 40% for home appliances, 20% for small and medium-sized motors in the industrial field, 13% for large motors, 8% for new energy vehicles and others. Among them, in order to meet the dual carbon and energy dual control, the state encourages the improvement of the energy efficiency level of household appliances and industrial motors. In the future, the demand for high-grade non-oriented electrical steel in these fields will increase rapidly. The demand for high-grade non-oriented silicon steel required by new energy vehicles is expected to reach 800,000-1 million tons in 2025, with room for growth of more than 5 times.
