DC-DC Converter (Direct Current to Direct Current): This device is responsible for converting the high-voltage DC (Direct Current) electricity from the vehicle"s main battery pack to lower voltages required for various vehicle subsystems and components. Electric vehicles typically operate with a high-voltage battery, but many onboard systems, such as lighting, heating, cooling, and auxiliary power outlets, require lower voltage levels. The DC-DC converter steps down the voltage to provide the necessary power for these subsystems while maintaining proper voltage regulation.AC-DC Converter (Alternating Current to Direct Current): While electric vehicle batteries store energy in the form of DC, the electrical grid typically supplies power in the form of AC (Alternating Current). The AC-DC converter, also known as an onboard charger, is responsible for converting AC electricity from external charging stations or outlets into the DC power required to charge the vehicle"s battery pack. It converts the grid AC power to the appropriate DC voltage and current levels for charging the EV"s battery.Both the DC-DC and AC-DC converters are vital components of an electric vehicle"s power management system, ensuring that electricity is appropriately converted and distributed throughout the vehicle for various functions, including propulsion and auxiliary systems. These converters contribute to the efficient and safe operation of electric vehicles.
Global EV sales continued strong. A total of 10,5 million new BEVs and PHEVs were delivered during 2022, an increase of +55 % compared to 2021. China and Europe emerged as the main drivers of strong growth in global EV sales.
