The global Aircraft Modification market was valued at US$ 5615 million in 2025 and is anticipated to reach US$ 8828 million by 2032, at a CAGR of 6.8% from 2026 to 2032.
Aircraft Modification Market
An aircraft modification is usually done to improve upon a current aircraft design or performance standard. They are also performed to equip an aircraft for special purpose operations.Aircraft Modification refers to the engineering and technical activities of customizing, installing, testing, and certifying the structure, avionics system, power plant, interior layout, and avionics of an aircraft after delivery from the original manufacturer (OEM) to meet specific operational needs, regulatory updates, performance upgrade goals, or functional expansion purposes.
Affected by new aircraft delivery delays and supply chain constraints (including long lead times for cabin airframe components such as engines, structural parts, and seats), airlines are more inclined to maintain capacity and improve profitability through life extension, cabin modifications, and avionics upgrades. On the one hand, they are increasing revenue per flight by reconfiguring seats/layouts, upgrading IFE (In-Flight Equipment), and improving cabin connectivity. On the other hand, to meet airspace modernization and regulatory requirements, they are continuously promoting avionics modifications such as ADS-B Out, CPDLC (Continuous Data Center Carrier), and FANS (Fan Access System) upgrades, as well as upgrades to higher bandwidth and more reliable onboard connectivity capabilities. Overall, modification demand remains resilient along the two main lines of "improving experience and profitability" and "compliance and operational efficiency," but project delivery is more easily delayed by bottlenecks in parts and certification capacity.
Meanwhile, structural/mission modifications on the cargo side (especially passenger-to-freighter (P2F) conversions) have become one of the most certain growth directions in recent years: the delayed delivery of new wide-body and narrow-body freighters, the impending retirement of older large freighters, coupled with the medium- and long-term cargo demand driven by e-commerce, have increased the value of freighter conversion projects in filling capacity gaps; the market is also moving towards more aircraft types and larger classes (such as the 777-300ER freighter model obtaining key certification in 2025, which will drive the feasibility of wide-body conversions and the expectation of supply expansion). Therefore, the future conversion market will be more clearly divided into two major segments: "cabin benefit upgrades" and "cargo/special mission conversion conversions," and will be highly linked to MRO capacity, conversion package/supplementary type certification (STC), and the pace of OEMs and the supply chain.
