Non-excitation tap changer is a kind of switch
Tap-changers are mainly divided into off-excitation tap-changers and on-load tap-changers. The main difference is whether they can be operated with electricity. On-load tap-changers can better meet the needs of new power systems. From the point of view of the voltage regulation method, the off-excitation tap-changer can only adjust the tap position to adjust the voltage under the condition of no electricity, and the adjustment range is small; while the on-load tap-changer ensures the continuity of the current during the switching process and avoids the disconnection. The short circuit between the connectors realizes the gear shifting under load, and the adjustment range is also larger. From the perspective of application scenarios, off-excitation tap-changers can only be used in places where the quality of power supply is not high and voltage regulation is allowed to switch gears during power outages; while on-load tap-changers are suitable for places where voltage fluctuations are frequent and non-stop voltage regulation is required. In the new power system, it is necessary to bear the volatility brought by the high proportion of new energy penetration, but also to minimize the power outage time and provide better power supply services, so the demand for on-load tap-changers will be stronger.
