A typical vacuum OLTC consists of a tap selector, vacuum diverter switch, motor-drive mechanism, and oil or gas compartment, and can be integrated into oil-immersed, dry-type, or gas-insulated regulating transformers. It is widely used in transmission and distribution networks, industrial furnace transformers, renewable energy grid-integration transformers, and railway traction substations to stabilize voltage, improve power factor, and optimize losses.
From an industry chain perspective, the upstream of vacuum on-load tap changers mainly includes high-conductivity copper and copper-chromium contact materials, silicon steel sheets and non-ferrous metal structural components, vacuum interrupters, insulation materials (epoxy castings, engineering plastics, cardboard), sealing and drive components, etc. It is highly dependent on high-purity copper and copper-chromium (CuCr) contacts, vacuum processes, and insulation systems. For example, Aurubis, Luvata, and domestic companies like Juou/Siri are important suppliers of copper and copper-chromium electrical contacts.
