In Digital Light Synthesis, liquid photopolymer resin is selectively exposed to a UV light source and is solidified into parts. Despite initial appearances, Digital Light Synthesis is unique from SLA and DLP as it is a truly continuous process that “grows” parts, removing the discrete steps of previous printing methods. Digital Light Synthesis’s innovation lies in its oxygen-permeable membrane that creates a dead zone underneath the part (known as a persistent liquid interface), allowing for continuous curing as the part is drawn out of the resin. Instead of using a layer-by-layer approach, Digital Light Synthesis uses a digital projector and various microcontrollers to project an ever-changing picture of a 3D model, streamlining the print into a layer-less design.
The industrial printer segment leads the market, accounting for more than 76.0% of the global revenue share in 2022. Based on printer type, the industry is further segmented into industrial printers and desktop 3D printers. The huge share of industrial 3D printers can be attributed to the widespread adoption of industrial printers in heavy industries such as automotive, electronics, aerospace and defense, and healthcare.
