Excipients include α-amylase, saccharifying enzyme, activated carbon, and ion exchange resin. However, the production process is significantly more energy-intensive, requiring high-temperature evaporation crystallization (70-80°C) or spray drying (120-150°C) to remove all water of crystallization, resulting in a 20-30% increase in steam and electricity consumption compared to monohydrate. This gives it an irreplaceable cost advantage in high-end pharmaceutical fields such as injections and lyophilized formulations.
