In fiber optics, polarization-maintaining optical fiber (PMF or PM fiber) is a single-mode optical fiber in which linearly polarized light, if properly launched into the fiber, maintains a linear polarization during propagation, exiting the fiber in a specific linear polarization state; there is little or no cross-coupling of optical power between the two polarization modes. Such fiber is used in special applications where preserving polarization is essential.
Polarization Maintaining Fiber (PMF) is a specially designed fiber used to maintain the polarization state of light during optical signal transmission to achieve precise control and maintenance of light. Polarization maintaining fibers are usually used in applications that need to keep the polarization direction of optical signals stable, such as optical communications, lasers, sensors and other fields. The polarization-maintaining fiber adopts a special fiber structure, so that in the transmission of optical signals, the polarization state of light can be kept stable, and it is not easily affected by external factors. Polarization maintaining fibers are widely used in optical communication, lasers, optical sensors, optical measurement and other fields.
