Computer Room Air Handler (CRAH) Market

The purpose of the Computer Room Air Handler (CRAH) is the same as that of the CRAC device. However, CRAH only uses fans and cooling coils. They typically use a cold water circulation system from a larger unified cooling system, using the same compressor and refrigerant system as CRAC, but with better economies of scale to transfer heat from data center floors to the outside of the building at a lower cost. The CRAH system utilizes cold water and allows for multiple cooling methods to circulate the cooling water. Energy transfer is not directly accomplished on the data center floor, which is why CRAH is referred to as an indirect system. In addition, the different designs of CRAH significantly affect the cooling range, for example, one design can only lower the air temperature by 12 degrees, while another design can lower the air temperature by 23 degrees. Generally speaking, the higher the outdoor temperature, the more powerful equipment is needed.
