Transient voltage suppressor, also known as TVS, is a high-efficiency protective device in the form of a diode. It utilizes the reverse breakdown working principle of P-N junction to introduce high-voltage pulses of static electricity into the ground, thereby protecting the components sensitive to static electricity inside the appliance. Taking TVS diode as an example: When the instantaneous voltage exceeds the normal working voltage of the circuit, the TVS diode experiences an avalanche, providing an ultra-low resistance path for the instantaneous current. The result is that the instantaneous current is diverted through the diode, avoiding the protected device, and maintaining the cutoff voltage of the protected circuit until the voltage returns to normal. After the instantaneous pulse ends, the TVS diode automatically returns to a high resistance state, and the entire circuit enters normal voltage. The main failure mode of TVS tubes is short circuit, but when the overcurrent passing through is too large, it may also cause the TVS tube to burst and open circuit.
