The integrated optical gyroscope is an angular velocity sensor based on the principle of optical interference. It uses the interference effect of light waves in a ring waveguide (or fiber ring) to measure the angular velocity of the carrier relative to the inertial space. When the gyroscope rotates, a phase difference will be generated between the two beams of light waves propagating in opposite directions inside. This phase difference is proportional to the angular velocity of the rotation. By measuring this phase difference, the magnitude of the angular velocity can be inferred.
