Microchannel liquid cooling plates (MLCPs) form the core structure of advanced microchannel liquid cooling plates by embedding an extremely dense network of microscale channels—ranging from tens to hundreds of micrometers wide and reaching hundreds to thousands of channels per square centimeter—directly beneath the cooling surface. These microscale channels dramatically increase surface area, thin the thermal boundary layer, and create a short heat-transfer path from the heat source to the coolant, resulting in far higher convective efficiency than conventional cold plates. Manufactured through precision techniques such as micromachining, additive manufacturing, laser micromilling, and diffusion bonding, MLCPs leverage microscale fluid dynamics rather than simply “smaller channels,” enabling the dissipation of heat fluxes that traditional macroscopic cooling structures cannot achieve. The unit price of MLCP is approximately 3–7 times that of existing water-cooled plates. Currently, the threshold for mass production and the verification cycle are high.
The upstream and downstream industrial chain of microchannel water-cooled plates (MLCP) is as follows: The upstream mainly revolves around raw materials and precision manufacturing, involving metal materials such as aluminum and copper, as well as suppliers that undertake microchannel precision processing (such as etching and 3D printing) and equipment manufacturing. This part is the key to the high cost due to the complexity of the process and the difficulty in controlling the yield. The midstream is the manufacturing and system integration of water-cooled plates. The downstream is highly concentrated in the field of high power consumption heat dissipation needs, with AI servers as the primary application, driving the explosive growth of demand. At the same time, the technology is also penetrating into fields such as new energy vehicles and humanoid robots.
