Compared with traditional diesel tractors, electric aircraft tractors offer significantly lower noise, zero or near-zero local emissions, cleaner energy profiles and potentially lower maintenance costs, helping airports and airlines meet “green airport,” decarbonization and ESG targets while improving ramp working conditions and operational efficiency. As such, they are becoming a key focus in the replacement and expansion of aircraft towing fleets.
In the value chain, electric aircraft tractors sit in the midstream between “metal and chassis components, electric drive and batteries” and “airport and ground-handling operations.” Upstream, structural materials, electric drive and energy-storage components, hydraulic and braking systems, and wheels and axles all play key roles. Steel and aluminum producers supply high-strength plates, profiles and extrusions for the chassis, drawbar, guardrails and superstructure—similar to Baosteel-, ArcelorMittal-, Novelis- or Alcoa-type companies. The running gear and driveline rely on axle and mechanical component manufacturers, along with tire suppliers such as Michelin or Goodyear.
