Organic Rankine Cycle Waste Heat to Power Market

The global market for Organic Rankine Cycle Waste Heat to Power was valued at US$ million in the year 2024 and is projected to reach a revised size of US$ million by 2031, growing at a CAGR of %during the forecast period.
Organic rankine cycle (ORC) systems are used for power production from low to medium-temperature heat sources at 80 to 350 °C and for small-medium applications at any temperature. This technology allows for the exploitation of low-grade heat that otherwise would be wasted. The working principle of an organic rankine cycle power plant is similar to the most widely used process for power generation, the clausius-rankine cycle.
The main difference is using organic substances instead of water (steam) as a working fluid. The organic working fluid has a lower boiling point and a higher vapor pressure than water and is, therefore, able to use low-temperature heat sources to produce electricity. The organic fluid is chosen to best fit the heat source according to their differing thermodynamic properties, thus obtaining higher efficiencies of both cycle and expander.
The organic Rankine cycle power generation system is a Rankine cycle with low-boiling point organic matter as the working medium, mainly composed of a waste heat boiler (or heat exchanger), a turbine (a machine that converts the energy contained in the fluid medium into mechanical work), condensation It is composed of four major sets of device and working fluid pump. The organic working medium absorbs heat from the waste heat flow in the heat exchanger to generate steam with a certain pressure and temperature. The steam enters the turbomachinery and expands to do work, thereby driving a generator or dragging other power machinery. The steam discharged from the turbine releases heat to the cooling water in the condenser, condenses into a liquid state, and finally returns to the heat exchanger with the help of the working fluid pump, and the cycle continues like this. Governments around the world are emphasizing renewable energy generation to ensure efficient and safe access to modern alternative energy sources. For example, in 2020, China announced that China will strive to achieve carbon peaking by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. In September 2021, the Malaysian government announced its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. Such government measures are aimed at boosting industry growth.
