The primary purpose of a fuel cock is to allow or shut off the flow of fuel between the fuel tank and the engine. It is usually equipped with a lever or a handle that can be turned to different positions, such as ON, OFF, and sometimes RESERVE.Some fuel cocks also have a RESERVE position. This position is used as a backup when the fuel level is low. It allows the engine to continue running on the remaining fuel in the reserve portion of the fuel tank, enabling the driver to reach a fuel station or a safe location.Fuel cocks are commonly found in older vehicles, especially motorcycles and small engines, where manual control over fuel flow is essential. However, modern vehicles often use electronically controlled fuel systems, eliminating the need for a manual fuel cock.
