Biogas, a renewable energy source primarily composed of methane and carbon dioxide, is produced through the anaerobic digestion or fermentation of organic materials like agricultural residues, organic waste, sewage, and energy crops.
Organic waste materials, agricultural residues, or energy crops are processed through anaerobic digestion to produce biogas. The biogas primarily contains methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Biogas undergoes purification and conditioning processes to remove impurities, moisture, and trace components such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) to ensure a cleaner and more efficient fuel.The biogas is used as fuel in an internal combustion engine or gas turbine connected to an electricity generator. The engine converts the chemical energy in biogas into mechanical energy, which is then used to generate electricity.The generator converts the mechanical energy from the engine into electrical energy. The generated electricity can be utilized on-site or fed into the grid to supply power to the surrounding area. The waste heat produced during the electricity generation process is captured and utilized for heating applications. Heat recovery systems, such as heat exchangers, transfer this thermal energy for space heating, water heating, or industrial processes, improving overall system efficiency.
