The cold field emission electron gun (CFE) is an electron gun that uses specific materials to directly emit electrons through an electric field under low temperature conditions. It uses the field emission phenomenon generated by strengthening the electric field on the metal surface. Due to the tunneling effect, electrons are emitted from the emitter, and these electrons form an electron beam through the small holes on the extraction electrode. Cold field emission electron guns have been widely used in scanning electron microscopes (SEMs) and other instruments that require high-resolution imaging.
