Full Flight Simulator (FFS) is a term used by the National Aviation Authority (NAA) for highly skilled flight simulators. There are currently four levels of full flight simulators, ranging from A to D, with D being the highest standard. D-level or Type 7 simulators simulate all aircraft systems that can be accessed from the cockpit and are crucial for training. For example, a simulator system called "Control loading system" is used to provide precise force feedback for pilots' flight control, and other systems such as avionics, communication, and "glass cockpit" displays are also simulated.
For many years, full-flight simulators have been controlled by a few companies in developed countries, forming a dual monopoly of technology and products. The full-flight simulator belongs to the high-end equipment manufacturing category and is a high-tech product that integrates multiple disciplines. It has high technical content and is knowledge intensive. According to relevant national standards and regulations, flight simulators are divided into four levels: A, B, C, and D, with D being the highest level. Previously, domestic products were only close to the level of large aircraft C-class simulators, while D-class full-flight simulators were essential equipment for civil aviation pilot training. Previously, the high-end simulation aircraft (D-class) of China's civil aviation large passenger planes relied entirely on imports, and a single D-class full-flight simulator was very expensive, which is currently the largest cost expenditure for pilot training in China.
The D-level full-flight simulator represents the pinnacle of current flight training technology, providing pilots with a risk-free training platform by integrating high-precision physical simulations and visual effects. Although the construction and maintenance costs are relatively high, compared to real aircraft training, D-level full-flight simulators are safer, more effective, and can significantly reduce training costs. With the continuous advancement of technology and the gradual reduction of costs, it is expected that D-level full-flight simulators will be more widely used in aviation training and research fields, becoming the main force for future aviation talent cultivation.
