A cytogenetic array, also known as a chromosomal microarray or array-based comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH), is a type of genetic testing technology used to detect and analyze chromosomal abnormalities, such as gains or losses of genetic material.
Cytogenetic chips work by hybridizing small fragments of DNA from a patient"s genome onto a glass slide or chip that contains known DNA probes that cover the entire human genome. By measuring the amount of hybridization between the patient"s DNA fragments and the probes on the chip, the test can identify and locate chromosomal abnormalities with high resolution. The results of a cytogenetic chip test can be used to diagnose genetic disorders, such as developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, and birth defects, and to inform medical management and genetic counseling.
Cytogenetic chips are commonly used in clinical genetics and prenatal testing, and are often considered a first-line test for detecting chromosomal abnormalities. They have largely replaced traditional karyotyping, a method for visualizing chromosomes under a microscope, due to their higher resolution and ability to detect smaller chromosomal abnormalities.
Although some major categories are still double-digit year-over-year growth in 2022, led by Analog with 20.76%, Sensor with 16.31%, and Logic with 14.46% growth, Memory declined with 12.64% year over year. The microprocessor (MPU) and microcontroller (MCU) segments will experience stagnant growth due to weak shipments and investment in notebooks, computers, and standard desktops. In the current market scenario, the growing popularity of IoT-based electronics is stimulating the need for powerful processors and controllers. Hybrid MPUs and MCUs provide real-time embedded processing and control for the topmost IoT-based applications, resulting in significant market growth. The Analog IC segment is expected to grow gradually, while demand from the networking and communications industries is limited.
