Automotive Airbag ICs (Integrated Circuits) are specialized electronic components designed specifically for controlling and managing the deployment of airbag systems in vehicles. Airbags are crucial safety features in modern automobiles, designed to rapidly inflate and cushion passengers during collisions, reducing the risk of injury. Automotive airbag ICs play a pivotal role in ensuring the proper and timely activation of airbags to enhance passenger safety.
When a car collides, the acceleration sensor will quickly sense the acceleration change caused by the collision and transmit this signal to the airbag chip through the bus. After receiving the signal, the airbag chip will quickly process and analyze the signal to determine whether the intensity of the collision has reached the threshold to trigger the deployment of the airbag. If the judgment result is that the airbag needs to be deployed, the chip will send a command to the ignition drive circuit, and the ignition drive circuit will release current to ignite the chemical substances in the airbag, causing the airbag to expand and deploy instantly to protect the safety of the driver and passengers. The whole process needs to be completed in a very short time, usually within tens of milliseconds.
With the continuous development of the automotive industry, especially the rapid growth of new energy vehicles and smart cars, the demand for airbag chips continues to increase. For example, self-driving cars have higher requirements for safety systems and need more advanced airbag chips to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
With the development of automotive intelligence, airbag chips will be more closely integrated with other automotive electronic systems to achieve information sharing and collaborative work. For example, they communicate with the car's sensor network, electronic control unit, etc., and intelligently control the deployment time and strength of the airbag according to the vehicle's driving status and collision conditions.
In terms of product types, independent chips occupy an important position, and the share is expected to reach 52.82% in 2028. Integrated system chips are also developing continuously.
