Invar alloys are primarily made from iron and nickel. A typical grade, 4J36, contains approximately 36% Ni and 63.8% Fe, with trace amounts of C, Si, and Mn. The high nickel content in the raw materials necessitates vacuum-grade pure iron. Nickel price fluctuations directly determine costs; raw material costs typically account for over 55% of the total cost. Adding the costs of vacuum melting, homogenization annealing, and multiple cold rolling processes, the processing and testing costs account for approximately 35%, and these costs are linked to monthly LME nickel prices.
